# 4. Special Cases

## **Ineligible Accounts:**

Access to Facial Identity registration is restricted to authorized user groups. If your account is not currently eligible (as verified via the central database), the system will not allow you to proceed with registration. Upon tapping the Facial Identity icon in the HKU App or accessing the direct link, an "Unsupported" message will be displayed.

## **Staff Access:**

Currently, the online registration via HKU App is exclusive to students. For Staff members, facial identity registration is available only through on-site workstations. This is because the mobile app requires a pre-existing photo reference which is currently only integrated for student accounts.

## **Lack of Student photo:**

Online registration requires a pre-existing official photo in the university database. If your record lacks a photo, mobile registration will be blocked. In this case, please proceed to a physical workstation to complete your registration in person.

An error message appears at the top of the screen if the system cannot retrieve an official reference image from the database.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://userguide.hku.hk/hku-facial-identity-registration/4.-special-cases.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
