</details>

### **Troubleshooting and Permission**

<details>

<summary><strong>Q: Do I need to tap the Check-In button manually, or will the app take attendance for me automatically?</strong></summary>

It depends on your registration status for the event:&#x20;

* **For registered events**: Your attendance will be recorded automatically when you arrive at the venue with the Attendance app open during the check-in period. You do not need to tap anything. These events are usually labelled as “Registered” in the Current Events section and may appear in My Upcoming Events up to 5 days before the event.&#x20;
* **For Unregistered Events (e.g. sit-ins)**: If you have not registered for the event but are attending as a sit-in, or enrolled students are not pre-registered in the Attendance\@HKU system, you must manually tap the Check In button in the app to record your attendance.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Q: I have opened the Attendance section in HKU App but could not check in to an event/class. What should I do?</strong></summary>

For attendees who have difficulties, they may:&#x20;

* **Restart the app**: Fully close the HKU app and reopen it.&#x20;
* **Check for updates**: Make sure you have the latest version of the app from the App Store or Google Play.&#x20;
* **Check permissions**: Verify that Bluetooth is turned on and the app has permission to use it.&#x20;
* **Check your connection**: Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data / Connect to the HKU Wi-Fi. Be sure to disable any VPNs.&#x20;
* **Restart or borrow a device**: Restart your phone. If it still doesn't work, you can temporarily borrow another student's phone, log into your account, and take your attendance.&#x20;

**Additional note (Grand Hall events)**: If your event is held in the Grand Hall, please refer to the [next question](#q-where-should-i-take-attendance-at-the-grand-hall) for specific instruction. &#x20;

Please contact the tutors/lecturers/Event organiser, they could also manually update the students' attendance records in Attendance\@HKU system if you could not check out.  &#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Q: Where should I take attendance at the Grand Hall?</strong></summary>

You must check in **only in the foyer area** inside the glass doors and within the carpeted section located directly outside the entrance to the hall. Do not take attendance inside the Grand Hall itself or outside the glass doors.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Q: Why doesn't my class appear in the "Upcoming Events" section?</strong></summary>

Only events in the next 5 days would appear in the Upcoming Events session. You may also refresh the page to see if any updates. &#x20;

Some classes may not appear in the "Upcoming Events" section because they have not registered enrolled students in the Attendance\@HKU system. These classes might only become available **for check-in** during the actual lecture or tutorial time. If you don’t see your class listed, it may not be set up to use the Attendance\@HKU system to take attendance.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Q: Why can't I check in to an event/class even if I have enabled Bluetooth?</strong></summary>

A: If Bluetooth is enabled but check-in is still unsuccessful, there might be connectivity issues or app glitches. Try the troubleshooting steps mentioned above, and if the issue persists, contact your lecturer or teaching assistants for assistance. They can help ensure your attendance is recorded accurately.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Q: What should I do if nobody is able to take attendance during a class or an event?</strong></summary>

If you and all other attendees cannot check in, it is likely a hardware or signal issue:&#x20;

* **Beacon detection issues**: Signals may not be detected within the venue.&#x20;
* **Beacon battery failure**: Beacons may be out of battery, preventing all attendance taking.&#x20;

Please report this issue immediately to your lecturer, tutor, event organiser, or ITS Service Desk to arrange the beacon checking to resolve the issue.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Q: What if I could not take attendance successfully in the venue? Could I ask help from Lecturer/Tutor?</strong></summary>

Yes, you can ask for their assistance, but we recommend trying a few quick fixes on your device first.&#x20;

If the app still is not working for you, inform your Lecturer, Tutor, or Event Organizer. They will be able to manually update your attendance record on the Attendance system after the class or event ends.&#x20;

</details>

### **Viewing Attendance Records**

<details>

<summary><strong>Q: Can I view the history of my checked-in events/classes?</strong></summary>

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Q: What is the time range for attendance records shown in the app?</strong></summary>

A: The "Previous Record" tab displays your attendance records from the last 180 days.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Q: How do I use the search box?</strong></summary>

A: Type your keywords (for example, “testing”) into the search box. After entering your search term, a list of relevant results will be displayed, ordered from latest to oldest.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Q: What should I do if I notice an error in my attendance record?</strong></summary>
